I think everyone involved should be required to disgorge the lion's share of their fortunes, for a number of reasons both related and unrelated.

The corporation was the first technology to function this way, separating the person from their actions by creating an "artificial person" in the law that you couldn't actually treat like a person. AI is just the logical consequence of that legal (and deeply Christian) fiction. Some people trying to create it might have really thought they were going to save the world or something, but i believe corporations saw exactly why they would want to use it, no matter how badly it functions at the actual work part.
